Looking for balance in life
As humans we are hard-wired to connect; and yet somehow, we still miss one another.
When you are feeling alone, undesired, or hurting – wishing that someone would make it all better – you can be blinded by your pain and miss how powerful and capable of change you really are.
Partnership in quest for balance
I am here to remind you that you are stronger than you think and worthy of love and belonging – no matter what.
When life throws you off balance, I will partner with you and your loved ones in giving you the compassionate, resourceful, and strategic support that you need to find your strength and get back on the path to living a life you love.
“Resolving to look beyond the surface of things, for better or worse, past the messiness, the rough-around-the-edges parts of our lives, is how we get to discover our untapped potential, our own diamonds in the rough.”
Charting the course
You can count on me to be open, curious, direct, and focused as we chart your course for healing and growth. I am all for you making things happen, internally and externally.
As your partner in this quest, I will cheer you on like nobody’s business, remind you of your vision when discouraged, and likely even cry with you at times. I will also remind you of why you came in, walk with you through any shadows, and not hesitate to reflect anything that has you moving away from your vision.
Through a combination of talk therapy and strength-based, creative experiences, we’ll quickly identify what matters to you most, barriers that are getting in the way, and what it is that you really want.
Much as a child learns best experientially, you will have opportunities to “try on” new ways of being both in session and at home. While I consider each person’s context and goals, there are four things that I typically address in some way:
Acknowledge what’s really going on currently in all areas of your life and how you are being or relating to your challenges.
Learn to accept all that’s going on in your life in a way that gives you the freedom to focus on what matters most to you.
Resolve to live by your values
Take committed action in the direction of your vision.
It takes courage to risk in relationships, commitment to stay connected, and vulnerability to move toward shared meaningful experiences. We will work to evoke these qualities and channel them into committed action.
I am unapologetic about standing for people experiencing their belovedness through intimacy, community, and most recently sex!
Marrying and having a child later in life, being tri-lingual (English, Spanish, French), and having done extensive personal work to heal my own family relationships have definitely given me a healthy dose of respect for how important choosing your therapist can be.
My professional training includes a Ph.D. and MS in Marriage and Family (MFT) Therapy (IMF #107131) from Loma Linda University, eight years of clinical counseling experience in a wide variety of settings, and extensive training in attachment-based couples and family approaches (i.e., Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Therapy or EFT and How We Love or HWL).
I also work with individuals or couples wanting to enhance their sexual relationship.
Like many these days, I wear lots of hats and bring additional life experience to my work. I am an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Approved Supervisor, have an MPH and background in non-profit management, 10+ years of experience in community development in the Inland Empire and internationally.
Outside of my duties as a therapist, I teach in local universities and host strength-based professional capacity-building workshops. I love riding my bike, adventuring in new places, play dates that allow mommies to play and connect, too, and going dancing.
My husband and I have two incredible kids and love this crazy journey called parenthood. While life is often messy, it is so worth diving in wholeheartedly!
